True Love
I’m happy to say that my dad loves my mom. One way you particularly can tell this is true is when Mom asks Dad to make or fix something for her, he builds or fixes whatever she asked for to perfection. I remember on various occasions everything from Mom’s hairdryer to the toaster to the toboggan sled to the screened-in patio being on Dad’s to-do list.
Most recently, it was a dog tunnel. (more…)
Today’s Recipe
Ready in 15 minutes for 3 people
1 package soft tortilla wraps
1 jar wrap sauce (for fajitas or burritos, not for tacos!)
250g pork (in blocks)
1 tiny can corn
2 bell peppers (for instance, red and yellow)
1 package shredded cheese
125g sour cream
Wash the peppers and cut them into chunks. Drain the corn. Cook the pork in oil in a skillet on medium heat. When the pork is almost done, add pepper chunks and cook another 3 minutes. Add wrap sauce and corn and warm through. Put a couple of the wraps on a plate and microwave a bit so they’re warm. Serve the cheese and sour cream in next to the wraps and filling; everyone can make their own wraps. Mmmm, it was yummy!
Spare Ribs
Did you know that it takes a minimum of TWO HOURS in the oven to cook spare ribs??!!!
Update from the day after: This turned out to be a really easy meal to make. The ribs were pre-marinated when we bought them so absolutely no preparation required. We decided that we actually would do this meal again, we just have to be careful when we plan to have it since it takes so long in the oven.
American Football Weekend
Since Wednesday Tim and I are able to watch all kinds of American sports through our cable subscription here in Germany, all on a channel called NASN (North American Sports Network). Just being able to see the US football games live with the original American commentary from my very own livingroom is practically earth-moving - I’ve really missed that.
So last night I took the opportunity to watch the Alabama-Arkansas game live. What a game, went into overtime and everything. If the poor kicker for Alabama could’ve just kicked the ball between the poles 1 of the 5 times that he missed, Alabama would have won. But 5 tries was all he got and eventually Arkansas managed to get a field goal opportunity in overtime and their kicker put the ball through the first chance he got. Win for Arkansas.
The big news in my hometown area is of course Ohio State, which is ranked #1 in the nation right now. Their score kept flashing on the screen throughout the Alabama game I was watching and at the half it was Penn St 3, Ohio State 0. But OSU kept up their winning streak - make sure to check out these video highlights from ESPN which are pretty good.
Sharing, Mac Tiger & Windows XP
My mission tonight was to get my Maxtor external hard drive partitioned, formatted and shared in such a way that it would be attached to my Mac with one Mac-dedicated share, but also have two shares readable and writable from Tim’s WinXP computer. Those of you non-geeks already know this post isn’t for you… but the elite few can read on.

My First Mac Crisis
Last night we had a small crisis. Okay, if you ask Tim, I’ll be forced to admit it was a large crisis. And what, you ask, could have happened? (drumroll please) My Mac ate a corrupt DVD that Tim fed it.. and wouldn’t give it back. (more…)
“Hallo Bettina”
That’s the first German phrase Tim and I learned, if you don’t count the German lessons Tim had in high school and promptly forgot (call it post-traumatic stress, he hated his German class). Other favorite phrases of ours are “Wie gehts?”, “oder das” (Tim’s favorite), “Ich bin fertig!”, “Du bist krank!” and “Darf ich reinkommen?” Now, we’re actually not as bad as all that would imply, but we aren’t exactly integrated. We have good days and bad days.
Today was a good day. (more…)
