With the Season
I don’t know what it is this year, but I’m looking forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas this year like I did when I was a kid. I mean, thinking about the holidays makes we want to jump up and down and totally lose all concentration on what I am doing. Luckily I work at home or my colleagues might think I had lost it.
I can’t quite put my finger on what in particular is causing this tinteling (sp?) excitement. I think one of the reasons is that I am feeling more American these last few months, and this true-to-my-roots feeling makes me enjoy the holidays even more because they were such special times in America. (Don’t cringe when I say the increased American feeling is probably due to the American sports channel we’ve had since September.)
I think another reason for my excitement about the holidays is that this year I feel ready for them. I haven’t just moved to another country (2005), switched jobs (2004), consulted a lawyer about suing my employer for not paying me (2003), felt homesick (2002) or decided to leave my motherland for a strange boy across the world (2001). Instead, I’ve gotten married and we’re considering buying a house! Now that’s the ideal backdrop for a Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year’s Eve - or all three.
Of course, I can’t deny it: the sweet goodies and tasty appetizers that seem to show up this time of year do awake the feminine good spirits in me. And of all places to live for these mouthwatering bites, Germany ranks right up there.
So, even ahead of the Thanksgiving season, I thankful that I am ready for it, and thankful to God for everything I am able to enjoy right now.
