Thanksgiving meal a success

Posted in Short & Sweet by Cheryl on 26 November 2006

Thanksgiving table The final menu included turkey roast, rosemary-garlic pork, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, turkey gravy, cranberry relish, green beans, homemade refrigerator rolls, pears in red wine, and monster cookies for dessert.

Considering this was the first “real” Thanksgiving meal I ever made, I was quite pleased with how it all went. The only “bump in the road” was that the turkey roast took 2 1/2 hours when I only expected it to take 1 1/2 hr. But hey, that only adds to the Thanksgiving authenticity since I remember similar situations at Grandma Heintz’s house ;) I found my newly purchased meat-thermometer an unbelievable help in getting the meat done, otherwise I would have taken the turkey out too early and disaster would have undoubtedly ensued.

How did all of your Thanksgiving meals go?

Thanksgiving went well– we did dinner with friends up here. We were in charge of appetizers and desserts, so we made: cheddar garlic biscuits, a cheese/beef ball dip, cheddar-sausage mini balls, peanut butter and chocolate cheese ball, and cherry cobbler.
They made: garlic mashed potatoes, “loaded” mashed potatoes w/ bacon and cheddar, turkey/gravy, and roasted veggies.

They had us over the next night for leftovers–they turned the turkey into a turkey stew that was delicious. Needless to say, I will be showing a gain at tomorrow’s weighin.
