Fresh and Fruity
That was Tim’s answer to me the other morning when I asked him how he was doing. I had to laugh; I mean, how many of us really would answer that having just climbed out of bed? Granted, it was a Saturday.
Tonight I cooked so Tim had to do the cleanup (or start on it, I did the dishes). I laughed myself to tears when he wrapped the leftover, unused tortilla wraps in a small garbage sack instead of putting them in the original sack they came in or in a Ziplock before putting them in the refrigerator. Being married sure brings different perspectives to the house sometimes!

Was Tim dreaming of IHOP or something? Rooty Tooty Fresh ‘N Fruity?

you’ve got him house-trained? i’m experiencing that now, i cook and she cleans. fortunately for me, most of the time, we don’t have a single clean pot or pan, so i don’t have to cook, which wouldn’t matter, cuz we won’t have any clean plates to eat on either. we’ve tried alternating cooking, but when it’s her turn to do the cooking, we end up with leftovers from Macaroni Grill or Carino’s.
we recommend and utilize the “one-finger” cooking technique, whereby we order pizza or chinese, and have it delivered. this process seems to work out best. Now, it’s only a question of who has a bigger case of carpal tunnel.

Hey Cheryl,
Just wanted to let you know that I’ve really enjoyed your blog. My wife and I are fellow Aschaffenburg-ians - or is it Aschaffenburg-ers? We moved here in April of last year and as an American I can totally relate to most of your experiences. I’ve also experienced the bewilderment of apartments without kitchens, lights, bathroom mirrors, blinds, or even closets! (Who knew the Germans lagged so far behind America in closet technology?!) My wife is German so all of this seems normal to her. But I do have to say, the kitchen thing threw her as well.
I’ve often considered starting my own ex-pat blog, but it probably wouldn’t be good for my blood pressure. (Germany gets me worked up sometimes.) Anyway, keep up the good work. I look forward to reading more about your experiences. And congratulations on your new home and recent marriage.

By the way…I’ve used that exact same move - the small garbage bag. Totally legitimate food storage technique!
