Trivial Pursuit a la Deutschland

Posted in Expat Talks by Cheryl on 24 April 2007

Tim and I have discovered a new kind of Trivial Pursuit here in Germany. It’s actually not officially produced under the name Trivial Pursuit - we bought it for 10 euro at the post office and it’s called “MaxTax Steuersparen 2007″. You got it: taxes in German.

The program works interview-style: it asks the questions, you answer them. Simple, right? Okay then, smart one, see how much of this one you can figure out :P

German Tax Trivial Pursuit

Tim and I got a good laugh out of this, which was about the second question of 50 we answered last night. (We’re not done yet, it’s just too thrilling doing things like this at the last minute.)

Some of the questions were easier: they would go on and on, and then end with “… in Germany before 2005?” We got all those right :D

    I’m trying.. (without a dictionary)

Have you paid real estate taxes or expenses to get a job while unemployed, something about while renting….

    How close am I?

Well, Mom, I think you’re only slightly in the neighborhood ;) Without consulting a dictionary, here’s my version of what this must be, I’m sure I’ll embarrass myself!

“Have you paid contributions to [some kind of] retirement funds, or professional nursing homes in the case of unemployment, which provide services comparable to the state retirement insurances?”
