A Day Late and Sleep Short
Tim and I have put my parents to bed, in our house in Germany. They just arrived in Frankfurt from Ohio, and during the house tour they went into the bedroom .. and just never came out :) You can’t really blame them though - they were scheduled to arrive yesterday morning!

Thursday night I couldn’t sleep so I got up to check the flight status of their flights. On seeing that their first flight was so delayed that there was no way they’d make their second flight, I assumed that they would either spend the night in New York or have to fly over Paris. I decided to stay up until 2am when they should be in New York so I could answer the phone when they called. At 1:45am, it wasn’t my parents but my sister Becky who called! She said she got a voicemail from my parents earlier that she only just received, that they had a new itinerary and would fly over Washington DC to Paris to Frankfurt. So I looked up those flights, and since everything was on time, I went to bed figuring they were on their way to Paris.
At 4 in the morning, the phone rang. It was my Mom. I was a bit sleepy so I was trying to figure out how she managed to call me from above the Atlantic ocean, when she said that she and Dad were at home! That was the last thing I expected. Apparently a delay had been announced for the flight to Washington DC, so rather than take the risk of sleeping there, they had gotten the flights rescheduled again .. for the next day! Poor Mom and Dad. So on Friday they took a flight to Cincinnati, had a 4 hour layover (!) and then flew from there to Frankfurt. I don’t blame them for crashing in bed at this moment!
In the end it worked out positively in some ways. Since they arrived on Saturday instead of Friday, we were able to pick them up from the airport as opposed to them having to take a taxi (we both worked Friday). And they didn’t have to spend their first few hours here on their own (again, because we were working). Still, what an experience for them. Here’s hoping that the rest of the trip is smoother than the start :)

Did they pose for that picture, or did you actually sneak in and take a picture of your parents?

Haha, that’s cruel. Never take a picture of someone sleeping!
Gotta love travelling, there’s always something that goes wrong. Such is life :(

I have to laugh at the comments on the picture! Tim actually had the presence of mind to take that photo right after they laid down before they fell asleep. And no, it was not posed.
